Kindred

FX’s Kindred adapts Octavia E. Butler’s celebrated novel, following a young writer pulled violently between her present-day life and the antebellum South. The design challenge was twofold: two centuries, rendered with equal precision, that the story cuts between without warning.

As Art Director, Yohannes oversaw the build of period environments in and around Atlanta — plantation interiors, working grounds, and the contemporary spaces they collide with — keeping the material logic of each era intact so the time-slips land as hard on screen as they do on the page.
